Blues in Schools Program

The “Blues in Schools" program that we do is designed to help youngsters understand the origin of most of the popular music of today. It shows how the meanings and power that today’s music has tends to mirror the intent of its predecessor (blues/gospel music).

Although born from an African American tradition, the workshop is designed to transcend all racial backgrounds, social classes, and musical genres.

The Kelly Bell Band presents the information with strong attention paid to developmental life stages in mind. The program was originally designed to address the emotional needs/concerns of at risk youth in a special education setting; however it has been expanded over the years to reach all age groups and school settings.

It has been reported to be both informative and entertaining, and often includes student musicians performing with the band. One student was quoted to say in process interview, “I learned and laughed too!" “Blues in Schools" – keeping American music alive through our youth…
